What is the EQAPHA
Gelding Plus Program?
Started in January 1999, EQAPHA's Gelding Plus provides a unique opportunity
for Paint horse breeders and owners to increase the value of their regular
and breeding stock registered geldings. The Gelding Plus program offers
cash awards to qualified Paint geldings competing at designated events.
This program is open to all paint horse geldings.
How does the program
work?
Each year, the EQAPHA offers $60,000 in cash incentives to the three highest
advancing qualified Paint geldings in both the open and non-pro divisions
at six designated events. The owner of each division's highest-advancing
gelding will receive a $10,000 cash award at the end of the year. The
designated events are listed on the events page.
What if I'm not
interested in the designated shows?
The EQAPHA
provides a number of programs that highlight the value of the Paint Horse
Gelding. Amoung those are the EQAPHA World Championship Show Super Gelding
Award (available only to geldings enrolled in the Gelding Plus Program),
and a number of classes in regular shows designed to specifically reward
the Paint Horse gelding at any level.
How do I know if
I've won?
The first step is to enroll you horse to participate in the events and
to compete. Because Gelding Plus rewards the highest-advancing Paint Horse
gelding, any placement in go-round competition is very important. At the
end of the year, the EQAPHA totals all the points of individual geldings
from the designated shows, and sends out the results in the Paint Horse
Journal, an online newsletter for members of the EQAPHA. The member may
then e-mail the association and collect their money.
